Plans, plans, plans

There is one thing sure right now - I will be on vacation, outside of the country, in July. Exactly where, that is the problem. I'm trying to fit in as many holidays into this trip, but the plan is still vague. Let's just say, it's an Amazing Race challenge - tight budget, lots of cities, and all modes of transport.

Not to sound cliche, but the Peninsular Malaysia coupled with Thailand, with a dash of Cambodia sounds nice. Hey, it's inexpensive, safe (those bird flu outbreaks were relatively isolated cases), and well-traveled by tourists.

Here's the general plan, fly to Singapore, meet friends in both KL and SG, then I'm off on my own. Melaka and Penang in Malaysia, Koh Samui, Krabi and Phuket in Southern Thailand (ah basta, beach!), partying in Bangkok, and ruin-hunting in Cambodia.

Planning the trip is just about as fun as traveling, so I'm enjoying the moment as it is. I'm currently looking at train schedules, and hordes of travel guides (2 for Thailand, 2 for Bangkok, 1 for KL, 1 for Malaysia and a bunch of brochures for Singapore). Other than that, I'm doing a packing list that should fit in one bag. And picking about a hundred songs to squish in my Wlakman phone for the ride.

Now, any ideas on any of those?

hi ron! marc dionisio here...

well well well planning for a vacation aigh?that would be really sweet.you should really go to koh samui and check out the beach!if you have spare time, a must would be the genting highlands! (which has a really cool theme park atop of the mountains.really nice view and all.

i actually did the singapore/malaysia escapade before.difference is that i came from brunei (cuz i was still employed in brunei back then).it was really nice..my tip?just bring some extra US dollars..:-)

speaking of my singapore/malaysia escapde, the real plan was singapore-malaysia-thailand- either taiwan or even up to hongkong!!!yeah you heard me right up to hongkong.there's a train which can take you fom thailand to china-hongkong.travel time?weeks i suppose.hihihihi.

if your want to cut down your expenses, take the airasia flight or tigerairways from clark to singapore.that would be real cheap rather from manila to singapore.well, goodluck with you escapade and dont forget to share your itenary and all.

im planning to go back this aug or the earliest this july.who knows?i might even join you on your trip.hihihi.it's a longshot but then again who knows.hihihi.

bon voyage!!!!

hi ronnie! planning for a trip? SG/ML trip is superb! just came from there barely a month ago... and its great! from SG you can take a train/bus going to ML, i suggest taking a luxury bus going to ML that would cost you around P1500. In SG if you want a cheaper hotel (just in case nobody of your friends takes you in... hehehe) there are cheaper hostels in chinatown.

good luck on your trip!

uy! i just have to put in my 2 cents. i took the train from Sing to Bangkok via KL and Hat Yai (Thailand). The whole trip took me two days, but it was worth it hehe. i wish i can join you, but funds are low...naubos pa lalo when i went to bora a couple of weeks ago. but i do want to do that whole backpacking thing again. in particular, i wanna see bhutan, laos, vietnam and myanmar.

don't forget to put mayer's RFS on your phone! essential road-trip music (but that's just me) ;)
